I can’t ever seem to use jigs effectively. Always getting hung up on something in the rocky river I fish in and lose every single jig I tie on. Tree limbs, rocks, something every single time gets me hung.. I used to catch tons of small bass on small jigs when I was a teenager but still got hung a lot. Lost a lot of fish because of the small hook size. Can’t get anything done with bigger jigs.

I have gained so much confidence in using a baitcaster after putting the advice you've given throughout your videos into my fishing. I thank you for showing me and many other anglers how to fully appreciate baitcasters

You can't have a knot that's over 100%. If the line breaks, but not near the knot, then you could consider it a 100% knot. But the knot can't magically make the line stronger. You should start your testing by determining the actual break strength if the line, if you have a reliable way of doing that. Oh, and you should use a real world hook or swivel, not a giant ring. Even then, your tests don't mean that "this is the best knot". What you should say is "For this line, using this hook, and tied by me to the best if my ability, this is the best knot I've found so far." Also, when testing knots against each other, it would be better to alternate knots, not test 5X one knot then 5X another knot. I have found different spools of the exact same line test somewhat differently, maybe there's even variance between different sections of line on the same spool. In any case, your scientific method could use some refinement, but nice job on the video.

My favorite top water bass bait is a hulla popper in the coachdog color. I have caught tons of fish with it. If you fish it early in the morning, cast in close to the bank.

man i love how that shot looked at the start of your video. I got to go home to PA last summer and i went fishing alone in the morning at one of my grandfather's ponds. It was one of those mornings just like in your video but with a soft, gentle rain. I hooked up on so many nice bass that morning too! a Day ill remember for a long long time.

I’ve owned 20 chatterbaits for about five years and maybe threw them twice in that time and caught one small bass. Here in Minnesota a big reason I don’t tie them on is because pike might just bite them off. 🤷🏻‍♂️

This may be a dumb question, but I'm using a pretty vintage reel that does not seem to want to manually flip the bail. So I can only do it by reeling in. I'll have to look at it closer, but I really like the reel a lot (I inherited it from my grandpa back 45 years ago) as it feels really nice, and it's compact. Any suggestions for that kind of reel?

I still use it, catch a LOT of bigger Northern Pike on it.

I catch and release for recreation only. The bigger threats are over-fishing and pollution.

Closing bail by hand is also a lot softer on the spring that would close it if you start just cranking and it extends it's lifetime greatly.

I went fishing today, 6-24-24, medium size Solid Black. Caught 9 bass and 1 perch at 7am. Went back at noon, caught 11 more. All the bass were 1 to 2 pounds. Cant wait to buy a different color, however Im now stuck on black.

Pro tip never put monofilament on your entire spinning reel. Do like 80% braid and then 20% mono and you won’t have a line twist and wind knot issue.

I don't understand mistake #4 that I usually open my bail and start pulling line out until I get the loop out then reel the line back up under tension of my other hand pinching the line. I don't understand the difference of decreasing the drag and pulling it out, but I trust you know why and I will just follow your advice and reduce the drag and pull out the line past the loop and reel it back up. Thank you! I already saw your videos on knot strength line strength. Those were such valuable informative videos!! I would think the manufacturers wouldn't want that information to get out except for the winner or top 3.

When i through weight less my line is super lose and i feel like i miss bights ? i almost always drop shot becasuse of this

So bass like to taste soft plastic and stainless steel then lmao, i catch more than 1000 bass in a year without using scents, i just using home made lure (hard lures and soft plastic bait).

The way my Grandpa taught me, he learned from Kevin Vandam during a tournament. When you tie on your lure, you turn your brake all the way down then tighten or loosen your tensioner to the point where your lure falls slowly from the tip. hold your pole up about shoulder high and you should be able to count to 5 before it hits the ground. Then turn your brake to about 50% and try to cast. You can tweak it from there. I find if I set my brake to 70%, I get a much better cast without backlash. But I grew up on spinning reels, so I tend to flip my wrist when casting and that causes all kinds of problems for me.

Great content. Not sure why I really need a sun shirt, but hey, I’ll buy one just to look cool…..couldn’t hurt.

I use Power Pro braid and always have. Only thing that frustrates me is, that notch cut out of the spool! When you're trying to put the braid on, the line catches that notch and flips the spool of line. Very frustrating! I put a piece of scotch tape over the notch to make it less grabby.

The lake i live on is muddy with about 1in of visibility...hahha but ive been getting a lot of hits on the jitterbugs! Really enjoying the top water smashers!
